OF late there have been some much unfounded murmurings around the office that at times I can be a little on the uncultured side.

It's funny that I didn't see any of my colleagues at the recent "In the Bin" short film festival; in fact you could say they were conspicuous by their absence.

Yes my young fella was involved in a three-day film and production course put on by GAGAL, which culminated in the viewing of some of the best short films from Australia and around the world. It also showcased the work of the students.

Let me tell you something, with what those kids produced in just three days, it really makes your head spin as to what they could achieve with a bit more time and funding, great job guys.

However that was not the extent of my cultural journey over the past couple of weeks.

No, being the artistic soul that I am, I also took myself off to the theatre for an evening of refined thespian activity.

Yep I took the kids to see 'Scooby Doo - Stage Fright' last week, oh how I've missed the theatre.

Now normally this would be the wife's task because she quite likes our kids, but she was working so I drew the short straw and, as it turned out, I wasn't the only one.

I've never seen so many blokes looking like they had just walked out of the dentist as I did that night, I got the distinct impression I wasn't the only one who would rather be having a beer and watching the Footy Show, but like the rest of them I gritted my teeth and took one for the name of bonding.

Thankfully for everyone concerned it turned out to be a great show, which took a bit of the sting off about being in the theatre with hundreds of screaming kids. It made a Wiggles concert seem like a funeral.

And I don't mind telling you that I had the distinct impression that Daphne was making eyes at me throughout the performance, I mean she's only human it's just a shame it hindered her concentration. …
