Month's Worth of Rainfall in Just 24 Hours for Bundaberg

RESIDENTS are stocking up with sandbags to protect themselves against the wet weather lashing the region, with forecasters predicting an entire month's worth of rain may be dumped on the region before the end of the week.

Just 4mm fell during the month of May up until Monday, but the heavens opened and deposited about 30mm in the 24 hours to midday yesterday - a third of that fell in the three hours from 9am.

But it is not over yet, with a further 50mm to 100mm of rain predicted during the next few days.

"We've had a couple of requests (in Avoca) for sandbags with people preparing in case of flooding," Bundaberg SES local controller Bill Daniels said.

"We've also had a request to attend a leaking roof."

Mr Daniels said there had also been a couple of requests for tarpaulins.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Ben Annells said the rain was likely to continue today and most of tomorrow, before moving further south on Friday.

"The heaviest rain will be up to Thursday, then it will ease off into showers, with a few showers over the weekend," Mr Annells said. …
