The Florida Theatre has announced its Summer Movie Classics schedule, featuring back-to-back Paul Newman in August.

"The Bridge On the River Kwai" (June 21), "Funny Girl" (June 28), "Amadeus" (July 5), "Dr. Strangelove" (July 12), "The Caine Mutiny" (July 19), "Oklahoma!" (July 26), "Cool Hand Luke" (Aug. 2), "The Hustler" (Aug. 9) and "The King and I" (Aug. 16). They're all on Sundays at 2 p.m.

The incomparable Burt Bacharach, the coolest guy to ever slip on a turtleneck and white loafers, turned 81 on Tuesday.

In his honor, here are 10 of his greatest songs you haven't heard too many times, taken from my prized three-volume Rhino compilation, "The Look of Love: The Burt Bacharach Collection."

Seek them out. Freshen up your musical collection. And compare their cool understatement to the hyperventilating excess so popular with "American Idol" and its ilk.

- "Please Stay," The Drifters. A sophisticated sing-along, set to a sauntering Brazilian beat.

- "It's Love That Really Counts (In the Long Run)" The Shirelles. Languid and sexy, and quite possibly the best girl-group song you've never heard.

- "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself," Tommy Hunt. Great version of a heartbreaker covered by many, including Bacharach-worshipper Elvis Costello and the intentionally awful Cameron Diaz in "My Best Friend's Wedding. …
