AT the Nebo Rodeo on Saturday night it was hard to tell if some of the cowboys were riding the bulls or being taken for a ride.

It was a spectacular site to see grown men holding on for grim life while being thrown around on the back of a tonne of beef like rag dolls.

One cranky brahman stole the show by shaking off his rider as soon as the chute was opened.

He then chased the rodeo clowns around the stadium for a few minutes until he grew bored of his playthings and trotted out the gate with his head held high to the cheers of the crowd.

In Spain they also have a sport where men are pitted against bulls in the battle for supremacy.

But with bullfighting the odds between man and beast are less even and the battle is far more cruel.

Seeing one bullfight in Spain was enough for me.

There is no dignity in watching a jeering crowd throw food at a terrified bull slowly bleeding to death while a man taunts it with a red cape.

I will never forget the sight of the bull standing in shock and confusion while blood and drool pooled in the sand beneath its hooves. …
