GREAT KEPPEL: The marina Tower Holdings wants to build as part of its vision of a redeveloped Great Keppel Island could prove a life saver, the company says.

Development manager Anthony Aiossa says if the marina proposal goes ahead, it will include free berths for the Water Police, Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol and the Coastguard.

"We believe providing berths at no cost for such vessels would assist their officers perform their duties and improve safety for people visiting the island," he said.

"Currently vessels have to moor off the island because there is no jetty or marina, so there is no easy access for craft responding to an emergency."

He said Tower believed the agencies provided an invaluable service to the community and wanted to support the work they did from their bases at Rosslyn Bay.

"If our proposal is approved, we would like to ensure these agencies can use the marina for their day-to-day work, whether it is for assisting rescues or policing water safety or enforcing fisheries laws. …
