Trainer to Appeal Disqualification

TOOWOOMBA trainer Ron Maund has had a change of heart and will appeal his recent 12-month disqualification.

Maund was disqualified by Queensland Racing Limited stewards this month following an inquiry into Pelltro testing positive to hydrocortisone in a urine sample taken at the Sunshine Coast on March 1.

Following the decision to disqualify him, Maund was all set to turn his back on 40 years in the racing industry to become a grey nomad.

Maund was hit with a legal bill totalling almost $40,000 to defend a drug-related conviction in the Street Smart case several years ago.

"I'll be appealing and I've got until Monday to lodge it," Maund said.

"I can't speak on the issue any more but I've been told I should go through the due process by appealing."

Maund has been advised an appeal would prevent a similar situation arising to Sydney jockey Chris Munce who is barred from riding in Queensland until the conclusion of a Hong Kong disqualification expires in September. …
