STEVE Gibson today assured the Boro faithful that the club had no intentions of hanging around in the Championship.

In fact the chairman promised that the club would be fully geared up towards winning promotion at the first attempt come August.

Gibson has already set his sights very firmly on achieving a notable personal hat-trick as Boro chairman.

Speaking on a BBC Radio Tees phone-in last night, Gibson said: "Since I became chairman, we have spent two years in the Championship and we won promotion at the first attempt on both occasions.

"Gareth Southgate had one year in the Championship as a player and won promotion.

"I don't underestimate the task that we face in getting the club back into the Premier League.

"But we have a lot of experience at this football club of what is needed to win football matches at this level.

" We will work to put together a squad which is capable of making sure that Middlesbrough Football Club is better prepared than any other club to get back into the Premier League." In reply to a caller who suggested that Gibson was happy to see the club in the Championship, the chairman retorted: "We hate the Championship. We don't want to be here. We are a Premiership club and Middlesbrough is a Premiership town. "I am a Championship chairman and I want to be a Premier League chairman. "We don't want to waste all the efforts of the past 11 years. "We didn't build the Riverside Stadium to be a Championship club. "We didn't build the Rockliffe Park training headquarters to be a Championship club.

"Our Academy is Premier League. We have Premier League people at our club. "It's just daft to suggest we wanted to be relegated." Gibson revealed that he had already held a top-level pow-wow with Southgate to plan the promotion assault. He said: "I spent all day with Gareth yesterday and we have a clear plan of what we have to do. "We know what we need. …
