The area's teachers will soon send off our children for the summer. Have you taken time to thank them?

Do they know that you appreciate the countless unpaid, additional hours that they spend preparing to teach our children? Have you answered their requests for tissue, plastic bags, newspapers, etc., so they won't have to buy them?

Teachers are a rare group. Teaching is "a calling." Have you answered when your child's teacher ... has called? As the teachers begin their summer, filled with planning for next year, workshops, and a bit of "fun in the sun," please thank them for all of their hard work.


Some credit card-issuing financial institutions have reverted to making payment due dates earlier. This is particularly true of credit unions. There are thousands of members belonging to credit unions who pay their bill soon after receiving a direct deposit of their retirement income into their accounts. The credit unions and others have been moving payment due dates closer to the first of the month, trying to enhance the possibility of the payment being late and gaining from the associated late fees. This is a cut-throat tactic used against the elderly and I hope whoever came up with the cruel tactic is haunted by the stress they have caused our seniors.


As a public utility, the JEA needs to take some initiative (other than simply raising rates). We need to get some of our power via renewables. Since we already have green recycling, let's burn it and make electricity. It is an endless supply and we could even import green material from throughout the Southeast, especially after certain natural disasters.
