BEATING the "absolute hell" out of himself by running his helicopter into powerlines was not Steven Shadforth's lowest life point.

That came when the former Caloundra boy got out of hospital three months later only to find Cyclone Larry had destroyed his house at Tully.

Today, the 40-year-old husband and father of two may be minus a leg, but the view he still enjoys from his helicopter is that much brighter.

"I live in north Queensland and I fish. It doesn't get much better than that," Mr Shadforth said matter-of-factly this week.

Mr Shadforth was back on the Coast with his three brothers for the launch of his father's pet project.

Sunshine Coast businessman and entrepreneur John Shadforth is the founder of The Encouragement Foundation.

The organisation aims to inspire people to improve their own lives by being a source of encouragement to others.

Far north Queensland visitor Steven was among more kin than just his brothers at the launch, surrounded by business leaders, university staff and students all united by a deep admiration for his father.

"My father has done some great things," Steve told the Daily moments after an emotional public address to his father, whom he named "the greatest man I have ever known".

"This will be his legacy, if I could leave one like it, well..," the reference to his wife Gabby and children Matthew, 11, and Timmy, 10, didn't get finished.

Almost four years ago Steve was preparing for a crop-dusting job on a north Queensland farm in his Bell 206 Jet Ranger.

He knew the approximate location of the powerlines, but was unable to locate them in the air until it was too late.

At one stage Steve recalls being on fire after crawling from his helicopter after it crashed to the ground.
