Speed Won't Let Ghosts Dwell on GF Defeat

THE Grafton Ghosts will return to the graveyard of last season's heartbreaking 25-24 grand final loss when the squad travels north to face NRRRL rivals, the Byron Bay Red Devils at the Byron Bay Rugby League Ground today.

Last year's memorable decider was 100 minutes of passion and pride but, with three minutes of extra time left, Red Devils halfback Jared de Thierry slotted the winning field goal and stole the victory from the Ghosts' clutches.

Ghosts first grade coach Col Speed said the squad was not focusing on past defeats, leaving what happened last year where it is best left - in the past.

"The grand final loss has not really been mentioned," he said.

"We are just focused on where, and what, we need to do to improve.

"We worry about our backyard and not what has happened before."

However, Speed said the rematch between the two former grand finalists 'was a good script' with nearly a third of the regular season completed.

"Byron Bay lost a few good players and the Ghosts gained a few," he said. …
