Radio-Thon Will Help Kids Smile

A CITY-WIDE radio extravaganza will be held to benefit children with special needs.

River 94.9 general manager, David Greenwood, said businesses and residents were encouraged to get behind the inaugural River 94.9 Variety Friday appeal on Friday, June 5.

Mr Greenwood said the appeal aimed to support the children's charity in a way that would truly meet the needs of lsick, disabled or disadvantaged children.

"We know Variety has helped make a difference to the lives of a lot of local children in the past but it has urgent requests for help every month," Mr Greenwood said.

"Variety Friday is a great way the community and River 94.9 can work together and provide life-changing equipment."

The River 94.9 Variety Appeal is also supported by Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale and Ipswich City Council, Channel Nine and The Queensland Times, with one recent beneficiary the children of Ipswich West Special School.

Principal Neil Larter said through the charity the school received $4000 worth of computer program Boardmaker, a specialised program which helps aid communication through a range of picture symbols. …
