COULD this be the end for White Van Man? A new Transit from Ford will hit the highways later this year which is limited to 70mph.

It could put an end to motorway tailgating which puts the wind up those motorists in less of a hurry than the busy delivery guy.

And another plus for the ECOnetic Transit will be lower running costs for companies, less pollution and a much more pleasant driving experience.

The new Transit ECOnetic is based on the frontwheel-drive Transit 280 panel van with short wheelbase and 2.2-litre 115bhp Duratorq TDCi engine.

Target fuel economy is 39.2mpg, while average CO2 emissions are claimed to be a best in class 189g/km.

So, what has the ECOnetic got that standard vehicles haven't? Develop- ments on the new vehicle include low rolling resistance tyres, low friction oil, a "green" gear shift indicator light, modified engine calibration and new low-drag wheel covers. The Ford workhorse also features the Durashift sixspeed manual transmission. …
