Meteorettes Set to Bounce Back at Home

BEWARE the Mackay Meteorettes at home.

That's the message from coach Nikki Bairstow, who is relishing the thought of playing the next five weeks at Candlestick Park after a torrid May in which the Thorne Builders Meteorettes played eight away games.

They finished the month with a strong 78-35 win over Toowoomba Mountaineers on Saturday night and battled to a 71-55 loss to North West Metro Pirates at Brisbane yesterday.

Bairstow is particularly looking forward to the rest of the season with the Meteorettes' star players Rohanee Cox and Marianna Tolo in the side, after they missed the last three weeks on a tour with the Australian Opals.

Although Saturday's game against Toowoomba was the only win for the Meteorettes during that period, Bairstow said the team was stronger for the experience of having to play without the stars.

She said Renee Stoddart was "fantastic" with a game-high 30 points, while Jaye Willis scored 19 points and Fiona McGrath 15. …
