The Sunday Telegraph Cineworld, the UK's second largest cinema chain, has a strong balance sheet so it can take advantage of opportunities that arise in the market.

One such chance could be in its reported interest in 21 cinemas put up for sale by US media giant Sumner Redstone, which is aiming to offload them as it looks to reduce debt.

Odeon and Vue are also thought to be interested in the cinemas and there is no guarantee Cineworld will win the auction.

It should not overpay for the cinemas, but the fact that it is able to bid demonstrates its robustness.

Shares are a buy at 142.5p.

The Mail on Sunday Compass group, the world's largest catering company, has implemented a management strategy aimed at cutting costs and making the business run more efficiently.

The plan is delivering results and Compass reported a 24% increase in revenue in the six months the March 31.

Brokers predict full-year profits of pounds 760m and a 10% rise in the total dividend. …
