IN early 2006 Community Programs Inc received a capital works grant from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing to develop a palliative care facility for the community of the Clarence Valley.

This funding was used to set up a unit for palliative care patients and their carers/family.

Dandelion Unit is situated in the front part of the house, which is owned by Community Programs.

The unit is fully self contained and includes everything that is needed for everyday living and all that is needed to care for a client with a life limiting illness.

The Ulmarra community has been welcoming of this facility and continues to support those that spend time there.

The unit has been set up to cater for many different and varied functions.

These include:

* Respite for carer - patient can come into the unit to be cared for by support workers, volunteers. Community nurses will visit as required. The carer can then have a number of days and nights respite in order to be able to continue full time care of the client in their own home. …
