PLANES, trains and automobiles lured Teessiders into the sun at a host of family events.

Model plane enthusiasts winged their way to an ever-popular display in Stockton, and VW fans headed to Redcar for a celebration of cars and camper vans.

Meanwhile in Stockton, a fun railway was set up for children at Newham Grange Park in Stockton.

The event, which also included traditional fun fair games like hook-the-duck and a coconut shy, was organised by the St John Community Partnership to celebrate its name change and tenth anniversary.

The organisation, which will now be known as Futurity, organised activities including a football friendly face-off between Stockton neighbourhood police officers and PCSOs with Futurity's Wrensfield youth group.

Val Magee from the partnership said: "It's been a lovely day for it.

"It was organised partly to say thank you to everyone who supported and worked with the former St John's Community Partnership." Teesside Model Flying Club's sixth annual event at Redmarshall this weekend attracted scores of visitors who enjoyed various aerobatic displays in the sunshine.

The 42 models from all over the world included electric planes, helicopters, jets and scale-built wartime aircraft.

They included a Druine Turbulent built from scratch by enthusiast Harry Harland from Hartlepool.

"I've been interested in model planes since I was ten and I was 75 in August," he said. "This is my third time at this show and they've picked a lovely day for it." Dave Williams from Nunthorpe brought along his Wellington Bomber.

"I built it myself from scratch and it took two and a half years," he said..

"Although it's big, it's quite light. It's made using bolsa and plywood and has two 26cc engines in it. …
