A BROKEN spoke and a fall after just five minutes did little to stop a fundraising couple in their cycling tracks.

Sue and Peter Harte, from Ingleby Barwick, set off from Whitehaven on Friday for a 140-mile coast-to-coast cycle ride, arriving in Sunderland on Sunday evening.

Practice nurse Sue said they were feeling saddle sore but thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

"We're still recovering from it but it was brilliant!" she laughed.

"I lost a spoke after nine miles and had to wobble along until we found a mountain bike shop to fix it.

"And Peter fell off within the first five minutes! But the second day wasn't too bad.

"The wind was blowing in the wrong direction though - we even had to pedal to get down a hill! We met some great people along the way and it gave us a great sense of achievement. We're hoping to do it again next year." Sue, 45, and Peter, 47, organised the cycle ride in a bid to raise to raise money for two local causes close to their hearts. …
