ENGLAND striker Wayne Rooney is desperate to make up for his last two major tournaments after they ended in disappointment.

Rooney burst on to the international scene at Euro 2004 but was injured in the quarter-finals.

He was then sent off at the same stage of World Cup two years later.

The 23-year-old can almost taste the biggest tournament in the world after six wins from six on the road to South Africa.

After beating Kazakhstan 4-0 on Saturday, victory over Andorra on Wednesday and Fabio Capello's side will be almost there.

Manchester Unied forward Rooney said: "You look to play in the big tournaments and the two I have played in have ended in real disappointment, so hopefully we can qualify and I can help this team win something.

"Of course you think about it, it is one of the biggest tournaments in the world and a win on Wednesday will be a massive step for us." Rooney scored the third goal in the 4-0 win over Kazakhstan and agrees with Capello's assessment that the team can score from anywhere on the pitch. …
