Murray Eases to Semi-Final

T OURNAMENT favourite Andy Murray admits he will need to raise his game to beat Mardy Fish and reach the semi-finals of the AEGON Championships at the Queen's Club, writes ADRIAN CURTIS.

Murray eased into the last eight of the competition with a straight sets victory over Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. The top seed won both sets 6-4 to set up his encounter with the American.

Fish, ranked number eight in thes ," said Murray. "Fish is a very good grass court player. I will have to raise my level to beat him. I have played him a few times and we get on well. He has a big serve and likes to come to the net. He likes short points, so I'll have to pass and return well tomorrow." It took Murray a while to get to grips with Garcia-Lopez - finally breaking his serve in the ninth game before polishing off the first set in style.

The Briton had never met the Spaniard before on the tour and Murray admitted that it had taken him some time to get to grips with his style of play.

"He started very well," added Murray.

"He served well and hit some big forehands at the start of the match. I needed to hang in a little bit in the first set, but I thought I served well throughout the whole match.

"I gave him one slight chance where I went down love-30 at 5-4 in the first set, but apart from that, I don't think any of my service games went to deuce. I didn't give him any break points. It was a solid match.

"I gave him a few too many chances to dictate the points at the start of the match but a lot of times that happens when you've never played somebody before.

"It kind of takes a little bit of time figure them out a bit, and once I managed to do that, I felt more comfortable.

"I feel good on the court. I'm moving well, hitting the ball clean. Tomorrow will be a good test to see where I'm at and see what things I need to work on. …
