Miners Urged to Turn Up Heat

SOCCER: With two A-League teams in town this weekend, there has never been a better time for the Whitsunday Miners to turn up the heat on their Queensland State League campaign than tomorrow's home game against the Redlands City Devils.

Two of the Miners, Michael Van Moolenbroek and Brett Neeve, already received invitations to trial with the North Queensland Fury, highlighting the fact the fledgling A-League club is keeping a close eye on Mackay's talent.

Neither has been named by the Fury for tonight's A-League trial but remain a chance of getting a run at the last minute.

Whitsunday coach Steve McDowall expects the Fury's interest to prompt some strong performances from all of the Miners squad.

"I think it will give them extra incentive, younger players included," he said.

"It's all a matter of doing the right thing, at the right time, in front of the right person."

After a two-week break due to a bye and a catch-up round, it will be a refreshed Miners outfit that takes on the fifth-placed Devils at Harrup Park tomorrow. …
