WHEELCHAIR-bound showgoers will be able to visit the upstairs exhibitions of the main pavilion for the first time when this year's Murwillumbah Agricultural Society Show comes around.

A new ramp being built at the back of the Dawes pavilion will allow disabled people to easily access the upper floor, Murwillumbah Showground trustee Ian Ross said.

But there is a catch; it is only half paid for.

"Half of the funds for the project have come from the NSW Lands Department," Mr Ross said.

"The other half was to have been arranged through the Federal Government, however with the new government coming into power this funding was no longer made available."

As a result, the Murwillumbah Showground Trust has had to get a loan for 50 per cent of the $40,000 project.

"We are looking for assistance from the public to help finish the project," he said.

"We've had a bit of public help already and have paid for three-quarters of the total project. …
