MEMBER for Rockhampton Robert Schwarten said State Budget funding for major infrastructure projects in the district would create hundreds of jobs and provide much needed services for the people of city.

He said $74.2m allocated to the Rockhampton Hospital Improvement project for an expanded Accident and Emergency ward was an example of this.

"It's a significant investment in local health services," Mr Schwarten said.

The State money is on top of the $76m announced in the May Federal Budget.

Other budget money for regional infrastructure includes:

* $8.1m to develop the Stanwell to Gladstone Infrastructure Corridor.

* $15.7m towards building a new substation at Pandoin (near Glendale) and a 132kV transmission line between Pandoin and the existing Bouldercombe substation to reinforce high-voltage electricity supply to the Rockhampton area.

* $10m to establish a new zone substation at Berserker to provide load relief to the Rockhampton Glenmore and Frenchville zone substations and augment supply to the North Rockhampton shopping precinct.

* $26m to overhaul 18 x 3900 class electric locomotives, 50 x 3500/3600 class electric locomotives and 11 x 3900 class freight locomotives, as well as distributed power (DP) system for all coal electric locomotives.

* $3.66m across Fitzroy for the Skilling Queenslanders for Work to create 590 jobs for young people and those disadvantaged in the labour market.

Health:

* $4m for a new cancer oncology centre at Rockhampton, to provide an additional 4410 cancer treatment sessions a year, with a total State Government contribution of $12.1m.

* $42,000 in Rockhampton as part of a statewide hearing screening program.

* $85,000 to non-government organisations in Rockhampton for Chronic Disease Health worker positions to support the implementation of the Queensland Strategy for Chronic Disease.

* $256,000 for Chronic Disease Indigenous Health funding in Rockhampton to support the implementation of the National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.

Jobs:

* $50.77m for vocational education and training activity to underpin the social and economic development of the Fitzroy region. …
