Tweed Needs a Big Pantry; Calls for a {Ldquo}free{rdquo} Supermarket

BANORA Point pensioner Terri Bradley thinks the Tweed has a big enough heart to support her idea of a charitable supermarket where the needy can get food for free.

The single-aged pensioner, who set up a weekly charitable food stall for pensioners in Tweed Heads more than a year ago, believes in these tough times the "haves could do more to support the have-nots".

"I have noticed a change in the people who are coming to the food stall and every week 30 to 50 people are coming to us to help put some extra food in their pantry," she said.

"Only last week we had a single mum come up to us and say that she had to move out of her home with little notice, with her four young boys.

"They were staying at a motel, but because she's on a pension and had to pay for accommodation she didn't have enough money to feed her boys.

"We normally help aged pensioners, but I gave her a couple of loaves of bread and any tinned items that she could open and feed to her kids. …
