Uncertainty Reigns as Rain Hits Courts

Article excerpt

IT'S been a season of uncertainty for both local netball associations with the rain playing the better game over the weekend.

All junior games played on the grass courts at both Murwillumbah and Tweed were cancelled.

The teams who did get to play did so under both sunny and wet conditions which would lead you to believe we were in Melbourne and not on the Tweed.

In Murwillumbah the 11/12 grade and the intermediates who were playing early commenced their games but were cancelled due to the poor conditions and as only half of the game was completed, these games will not be entered into the scoresheets.

With the sun finally showing up at 12.30pm the rest of the games proceeded with the following results:

Intermediate:

The Storm v Spice Girls game cancelled;

Southern Cross Stars 28 d Get Smart Goal Getters 10;

Open:

Lady beetles forfeited to Tigers;

Flamin Devils 50 d Newbies 11;

Waratahs 21 d Cougars 20;

Player awards for this round went to Megan Albury; Jai Mai; Aimee Ahu; S Bray; Caitlin Rabjones and Cathy Dowling.

The procedure for playing the washed out games will be discussed at the next meeting on July 2.

They appeared to have the game won when the Cougars pounced to take a one goal advantage and secure the game in the fourth quarter.

In Tier 2, the girls were outplayed on the day and will be looking to improve their performance when both Tier 1 and 2 teams take on the Brisbane South Wildcats at home on July 4.

As of Round 12, the Tier 1 Jaqs were placed first on eight points with the Tier 2 team sitting fifth. …
