SOFTBALL: What better way to celebrate the official opening of a new facility than by putting your sport's young talent on show?

That is exactly what the Rockhampton Softball Association has done for the opening of its new diamond at Kele Park.

Tonight the under-19 boys and girls will be in action for a showcase match in front of invited guests and other onlookers.

There will be no shortage of talent in view. For despite the small number of participants compared to larger districts, the percentage of players who go on to become state representatives, in most age groups, is high.

Avijon Tane-Cox is one star of the future.

Recently the youngster represented Queensland at the National Schools Championship.

President of the Rockhampton Softball Association Tanya Abbott said while the team did not enjoy the best results, it was not due to any failure on behalf of Tane-Cox.

"She had the highest batting average in the team," she said. …
