NOW let's doff our coronets to one of this country's most eligible bachelors, the Marquess of Cholmondeley, the Lord Great Chamberlain of England, who has become engaged to Rose Hanbury. For the past three years he has been dating the 25-year-old former model who has worked as a political assistant to MPs Kate Hoey and Michael Gove.

Better known as filmmaker David Rocksavage (he wrote and directed Shadows in the Sun, now showing at the Curzon), Lord Cholmondeley, lives at one of the greatest houses in England, Houghton Hall in Norfolk, while Rose, daughter of Timmy Hanbury, a scion of the Truman, Hanbury and Buxton brewing family, hails from Burley-on-the Hill in Rutland. The current Cholmondeley heir is David's cousin Charles who, at 50, is a year older and still a bachelor. So there will be rejoicing in East Anglia that the Cholmondeley line may be saved from extinction.

David and Rose first met three years ago with Fred Lambton at his father Lord Lambton's house in Tuscany. …
