Ex-Athlete Takes a Tumble; Popular Councillor Cherie Rutherford Caused Many a Laugh {Ndash} and Some Embarrassment {Ndash} in a School Sports Day Race

Article excerpt

ROCKHAMPTON regional councillor and local mum Cherie Rutherford came unstuck at the St Anthony's school sports day this week.

Every year Cherie takes part in the parents' race at the carnival ... a move she may have regretted this year.

You may not know, but Cherie was a former world trampoline champion in her age group and used to be (with emphasis on the used to be) extremely well co-ordinated.

This week her 12-year-old son was reportedly "most embarrassed' to watch his mum do an impromptu face-plant during the race - though many onlookers were no doubt amused by the erstwhile bouncer's unco-ordinated antics.

The Buzz ponders what it would be like if the 11 regional councillors had an 80m sprint race - besides needing an ambulance at the finish line it would be an entertaining event.

White substance was unfamiliar

BREAKING news!

The Buzz can report there was a scare at the New South Wales training camp in Sydney on Wednesday afternoon.

Training was delayed for nearly two hours after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the football field. Initially officials thought it was a prank.

The coach immediately suspended training, while police and Australian Security Intelligence Organisation were called to investigate.

After a complete analysis, police forensic experts determined that the white substance, unfamiliar to most of the NSW players, was in fact, the try line.

Practice was resumed later after police and ASIO decided the NSW team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.

Stunning in maroon

WHILE we're talking about Queensland's triumphant victory this week, The Buzz can reveal last week's fashions in the field winner and WIN TV newsreader Samantha Heathwood will sport a maroon outfit today.

Good luck Sam, The Buzz is sure you'll look stunning! …
