MUM PUTS BOOT INTO MORBID SKULL DESIGN; Daughter Chooses Theme with Dad for $700 Orthosis

SHE could have had princesses, butterflies or fairies.

But Yeppoon mum Kym Stevenson said for some reason Rockhampton Hospital let her seven-year-old daughter walk away with skulls and crossbones decorating her leg splint.

This week Ms Stevenson was on the front foot, asking how her physically and intellectually impaired daughter could received an item of clothing that would make her an even bigger target for teasing.

Ms Stevenson said her daughter suffered from cerebral palsy as a result of being born premature and required a special walking apparatus (pictured) to help strengthen her left leg muscles.

Last Thursday Ms Stevenson's ex-husband took their daughter to the hospital for a new boot to be designed.

It cost about $700 and was tailor-made. When she picked up her daughter Ms Stevenson said she was horrified.

The special plastic boot, which goes from the foot right up to the knee, is black and covered in white skulls and crossbones. …
