RAINBOW Judo Club is going from strength to strength - and gaining in trophies and numbers.

Coached by Eric Salway, inset, at the Rainbow Leisure Centre in Coulby Newham, the Middlesbrough outfit now has a new junior section alongside its 30 senior members.

Club players Anthony Brown and Martin Robinson have also brought home winners' medals of late from Yorkshire and

Humberside competitions.

"We seem to be on a run at the moment and turning out some decent quality players competing nationally," said Salway, a black belt since 1979.

"We've got five black belts at the club and will be looking at the British Judo Association calendar to see what else is coming up.

"Apart from competing, judo is also a great way of increasing cardiovascular fitness, as well as encouraging the traditional elements of discipline and respect..

"We have been attracting black belts to our classes and have had good feedback for our training methods. …
