TEN years ago Marian Silver began looking for a way to put her time and energy back into the community.

Her husband had passed away, she was long retired from her 20-year nursing career and she needed a new project to fill her spare time.

She knew about Bloomhill Cancer Help from her time as a nurse and watching a family member struggle with cancer.

A decade later her decision to become a Bloomhill volunteer has opened up more rewards than she ever imagined.

"It just feels very good giving them my time and I've made many friends," she said.

"I'll be doing it as long as I can."

It was a small gesture filled with gratitude, but more than 120 Bloomhill volunteers were thanked on Saturday for their ongoing help at the annual volunteer breakfast at the Buderim centre.

Each volunteer was given a small plant cutting from the Bloomhill centre grounds to symbolise them taking home a part of the organisation that has survived largely through their commitment. …
