Redlands Demolish Hapless Raiders; Brisbane Side Puts Toowoomba to the Sword

THEY may have given it their all, but there was nothing the Toowoomba women's Raiders could do to avoid a 14-0 shellacking by Redlands at Commonwealth Oval at the weekend.

Lacking player numbers and depth, the Raiders struggled to find their footing in the first half.

Toowoomba had five shots at goal but were unable to find the back of the net, trailing 8-0 at halftime.

The Raiders appeared to rally after the break, keeping Redlands scoreless in the first 20 minutes of the second stanza.

The effects of an empty bench began to take its toll on the Raiders, however, with Redlands slotting six goals at the back end of the match.

Raiders coach Keren Thomas had nothing but praise for the determination of her team.

She admitted, however, that they were outclassed by one of the Football Brisbane Premier League competition's top teams.

"It was a thumping. We had no depth in terms of numbers or in the quality of players," Thomas said. …
