Fine Fetta Award Gives Annette a Cheesy Grin

THE big cheese of the cheese making industry is basking in glory after her recent gold medal win at one of the state's finest cheese awards this month.

Annette Emmerson took out first place for her homemade goat fetta at the Brisbane Cheese Awards - straight from the heart of her Lockyer Valley property at Thornton.

"I was pretty flabbergasted that I won," Mrs Emmerson said.

After almost eight years of making cheeses from the confines of her laboratory surrounded by mountains, cattle and goats, this is the first time the business entrepreneur has entered the Brisbane competition.

All it took was a suggestion from her husband to make more use of their dairy cows and within months Mrs Emmerson enrolled in her first cheese-making course.

A year later she decided there was a better market for goat cheeses.

The Emmersons bought a few goats and now with more than 60 goats on their property their family business Emmos Fine Foods is flourishing. …
