THE next time you walk along one of our main shopping districts set your sights on wishing at least two people a pleasant day.

If you are already a friendly person you may already be doing this, but it's my guess there are very few people reading this comment piece this morning who bother to acknowledge anyone else on the street.

You don't need to be an extrovert to share a love of life and it may be easy just to dismiss my call 'to friendliness' because you believe you are too shy to speak to a stranger.

To me that's a cop out. Just think how nice it would be to have a number of people greet you with a smile and a 'gidday' as you stroll down the road.

There are many people in our community who live an isolated existence. The rare time they get out usually involves a walk down the road to do the banking or shopping. …
