A MUCH-LOVED bingo loving pensioner has died at the grand old age of 100.

Born in Cargo Fleet, Sidney Unthank, a retired bookmaker, from New Skelton, will be remembered as a real character who led an incredibly full life.

The popular centenarian celebrated his 100th birthday in April at Redcar's Crown Bingo club, where he was showered with gifts from well-wishers.

Sid never married but was a special and devoted friend to Rene Gibbons. During their 30-year friendship they shared Sid's house in New Skelton, and Rene's in Elm Road, Redcar.

Rene, 86, said: "He was a wonderful person, and I'm going to miss him. He was a very caring companion. A man's man, and they don't make them like that any more. He was really well liked and didn't ask for much."

Sid thought a lot of his family, he was uncle to Geoffrey and Elizabeth, both 73, and Thomas, 65. He leaves behind many great and great-great nephews and nieces.

Born April 29, 1909 he was the youngest of six children. …
