HOPES OF Northumberland recording backto-back Minor Counties Championship away wins have been dealt a blow by the weather. Heavy rain brought a premature end to proceedings on the second day of their game at Lincolnshire - and time looked to be against North on the final day.

Responding to North's impressive first-innings score of 383-9, Lincolnshire had moved on to 214-5 after 56 overs early in the afternoon session when the game was washed out.

North have a healthy lead of 169, but the game seemed to be heading for a draw unless Dan Shurben's side were to set an inviting victory target or have a nightmare with the bat second time round.

Team boss Bill Graham said: "After Craig Smith made an early breakthrough it was hard going with the ball until we took two wickets just before the rain came.

"Martyn Dobson batted beautifully and shared a big partnership with Paul Cook.

"He is still at the crease, but Lincolnshire are a long way behind. …
