Busy Ben Makes Time for Hockey Goals

BEING a former representative player and flat out at work, Ben Sawyers had to make a decision.

He could give up his Brisbane competition commitments and return to the Ipswich A-grade competition, or have a break for a while. He chose the first option.

Despite a tough workout on Saturday night, the Norths goalkeeper is happy he's back in Ipswich.

As a transport manager for such projects as the Gateway Bridge and Ipswich and Logan interchanges, Sawyers has been working up to seven days a week.

"I made the Queensland under-21s and had to make the decision between hockey and work and work comes first," Sawyers, 23, said.

"Due to work commitments, I don't have much time for hockey as what I used to.

"It's very full-on and time consuming."

But Sawyers remains positive.

Even after Saturday night's 3-1 loss to Toowoomba side Red Lion, Sawyers was thrilled to be playing at every opportunity.

"I came back to Ipswich last year and I'm having fun now, enjoying it," he said, having played previously with Brisbane club United and in Redcliffe. …
