A HOME OF MY OWN; Sheila's Dreams Finally Come True

A ONCE homeless woman from Teesside is enjoying an independent lifestyle thanks to an award-winning housing project.

Sheila Davison, 54, from Middlesbrough, has worked through problems in her past to finally achieve her dream of running her own home.

The Hestia project, which was set up by Endeavour Housing Association in 1998, aims to give women who have had a series of failed tenancies a chance to move forward.

Sheila, who suffers with a heart condition, had always wanted her own house. She said: "Before Hestia I was unhappy with my life. Some people in my past didn't treat me very well and many years later I found myself living in a homeless hostel.

"I was under the support of many different community services and had experience of living in a communal support environment, but when Hestia came along it helped me to get structure in my life. I wouldn't have got this far if it wasn't for Hestia."

Over the past few months, Sheila has seen her level of support drop from 10 hours to just one, and soon she will be independent. …
