Worst Fire Season in 10 Years

BUSHFIRES are one of nature's most devastating forces.

And with vegetation abundant throughout Central Queensland, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service is making every effort to prepare residents with some useful safety tips.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service regional manager of rural operations John Fisher said the fire season had arrived early and we all needed to prepare for the worst.

"Our region has received two years of good growth after the drought which in turn means there is a very high fuel load across Central Queensland," he said.

"These are the heaviest fuel loads we have seen in about a decade."

Mr Fisher said being prepared and safe this season was a partnership between QFRS and property owners.

"On a really bad day, it will be difficult to control a bushfire and the fire service will be limited as to how we can assist all residents," he said.

"We need to get the message out to property owners to develop a plan and take action now to protect their life and their property. …
