INDUSTRIAL estates were in far less demand than anticipated, Nicklin independent MP Peter Wellington said yesterday.

Mr Wellington was addressing members of the Suncoast Model Flyers Club at Coolum's half-empty Quanda Park industrial estate.

He said the amount of space available across the Coast was enough for years, without forcing the flyers and an adjoining motocross club to move.

The club is scheduled to be moved 250 metres down the road early next year to make way for industrial development. It will then be forced to move again in 2013, possibly to Traveston.

"The reality is there is lots of space in our industrial estates, from Caloundra to Coolum, and the final stages of Yandina being developed, Mr Wellington said.

"There was a case where a few years ago it was considered they would all be full with queues waiting to get in.

"Now that that has not happened and we haven't seen the massive take-up of industrial sites, we have to have another look. …
