COLIN Todd would love to see Darlington produce a pounds 1m star.

The new Quakers manager has promised that players coming up through the youth ranks will get a chance to step up this season.

"I have spoken to the youth team and said I will watch them, and if they shine they will be considered for the first team," he said.

"It is vital that clubs like ours produce players, and we have some good ones coming through.

"We may have to sell them on, but that is something we will deal with if the time comes."

And Todd recalled that when he was coaching and managing at Boro after the club emerged from a financial crisis, the sale of Gary Pallister to Manchester United, for a then British record fee of pounds 2.3m, gave Boro a massive cash injection.

"These things happen in football, and it would be great if someone could leave Darlington for pounds 1m."
