AS John Reed sits on his patio, he watches in disgust as the speedsters zoom past the Cawarral school.

He says it's a dangerous combination - speeding cars and no school crossing.

"I see the idiots speeding through the school zone well over the limit."

The correctional officer said his major concern was the safety of his six-year-old son, Brendan, who walked along the path and crossed the road to school every day.

"There are five families in our street with kids who all walk to school and there are always elderly people crossing that road," he said.

"We're all worried someone is going to get hit."

Mr Reed said he was fighting for council to put strips along the road to slow down the traffic approaching the school zone.

Rockhampton Regional councillor Brett Svendsen yesterday said with the growth of the coast, and the traffic volume increasing, he was pushing for a crossing from the school on Annie Drive to the recreational grounds across the road. …
