IT WAS supposed to help save the planet but could end up being binned.

A glossy 68-page book called North Tyneside's Climate Change Strategy was printed in May and was meant to be the cornerstone of the borough's green policy.

It was produced just weeks before the mayoral election in North Tyneside and contained forewords by then Labour mayor John Harrison and his cabinet member for sustainable development, Coun John Stirling.

But now new Tory mayor Linda Arkley has shelved the book, which cost pounds 9,000 to print around two-anda-half thousand copies, we understand, while she carries out a review and they may end up being pulped.

Coun Stirling said: "I think it's a bit petty and it's just because it's got our photos on it.

"I was told it was going to be pulped which is a bit ironic given the subject of the book."

The book had been signed off and printed in May, just a month before the mayoral election at the start of June. …
