Veteran Postal Man Honoured with Medal

A VETERAN postal worker who has dedicated his life and career to helping others and the wider community has received a prestigious accolade for his tireless efforts.

Gatton Post Office's postal manager Lawrie Johansen has received a bicentenary medal from his employer, Australia Post, for his contribution to the company during his 44 years of employment.

Mr Johansen, a humble winner, said he was honoured to receive the award.

"I'm not one to accept accolades. I just do what I do because I enjoy it - not for recognition," Mr Johansen said.

"I enjoy helping the community and I get great satisfaction from helping wherever I can and I don't expect anything in return."

Mr Johansen started working for Australia Post as a telegram boy when he was 17 at Roma and has gradually progressed up the ranks from a postman to second in charge, and postal manager.

He has worked for Australia Post in a variety of roles in Boggabilla, Roma, Augathella, Goondiwindi, Tara, Dalby and in 2006 was offered a role as postal manager at Gatton. …
