Bringing Some Glamour into Busy Bonnie's Life

BONNIE MARTIN, of Lismore, recently started her own business as a travel counsellor, working through Travel Counsellors Pty Ltd.

Working from her home office, she provides quotes and makes bookings on all types of travel. However, the move away from wearing a company uniform and the hectic lifestyle of being a businesswoman and mother has meant that Bonnie hasn't had time to update her style.

"I've worked in travel for over six years and I've always worn a uniform," says Bonnie, who is also mother to 11-year-old Chloe. "When I left high school I worked booking bands and gigs and in the music industry. But then I got pregnant a few years out and had Chloe. When she turned two I realised it was time to start preparing for a new career so I went to TAFE and studied IT and travel.

"I love the industry and working independently providing travel services. But I've just been used to pulling my hair back with an elastic band and wearing a uniform. And it's harder to find things you like when you're bigger than a size 12."

When Bonnie consulted hairdresser Ryan Ambrose at Hair Embassy, which opened recently in the Embassy Arcade in Lismore, he liked the length, but wanted to show her how to give it a more glamorous look for when she's not frantically busy.

"I've been growing my hair for five or six years now," explains Bonnie. "I used to bleach it and that ruined it and I had all that cut out and grown it and I've been dying it black. It has a lot of natural frizz unless I straighten it."

Ryan washed and conditioned Bonnie's hair and then blow-dried it on rollers and added some loose curls with a straightening iron (yes, it's a special technique). He worked on the hair in sections to make the most of the length with dramatic styling and finished with a little backcombing for height at the back of the head and some finishing gloss. …
