Wharf Work Is a Blessing for Local Boaties

TWEED boat captain Stuart Giblin says a revamp of the Tumbulgum wharf was long overdue.

Run down and in dire need of repair, the wharf received a $45,000 facelift thanks to funding from the Federal Government.

Mr Giblin, of Tweed Endeavour Cruises, said the wharf had deteriorated over time through heavy use and the January 2008 floods hit it hard.

"The old one was so damaged we actually had to come down here ourselves to secure it so we could keep coming here," Mr Giblin said.

"It is a lot better and this one is longer as well. Smaller boats can get in around the back now."

"I am all for it, it is a good wharf and it works well for us."

Tweed Shire Council constructed the Faith Bandler Park wharf along with a $51,000 upgrade to pontoons at in the Tweed Heads South area.

Those upgrades included the replacement of a floating pontoon attached to Foysters Jetty and a new pontoon on the timber jetty at the Dry Dock Road Boat Ramp. …
