HookUp Funds Net a Nurse for Breast Cancer

THE pink ladies were everywhere at the Gladstone Marina yesterday but John Travolta and the T-Birds were nowhere in sight.

The sea of pink was out in force to welcome the area's first McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Donna Nicholls.

The Boyne Tannum HookUp committee donated $13,200 to the McGrath Foundation to help establish a breast cancer nurse for the region.

Also among the crowd were Breast Buddies - a cancer support group - as well as the Federal Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot, Federal Member for Flynn Chris Trevor and Member for Gladstone Liz Cunningham.

Donna Nicholls is one of the 44 Breast Care Nurses the McGrath Foundation has employed and Minister Justine Elliot says McGrath nurses are integral to the support and treatment of breast cancer patients.

"This initiative allows women diagnosed with breast cancer, especially those in rural and regional areas, to have access to nurses who have specialised breast care skills and training," she said. …
