INVESTIGATIONS are being carried out by Redcar and Cleveland Council into flooding in areas in the borough.

It follows last week's deluge when the borough was hit by its heaviest rainfall for nine years.

Leading councillor Mary Lanigan says investigation are being made at 10 sites.

And Councillor Chris Abbott, leader of the council's Liberal Democrat group, says the authority should set up a scrutiny panel to ensure enough is being done by the relevant authorities to reduce the threat of flooding.

Council staff worked round the clock dealing with hundreds of calls for help and coping with major problems on the roads last Friday.

Cllr Lanigan, the council's Cabinet member for highways, transportation and planning, said: "From telephone answering to highway maintenance, I want to praise our staff for an excellent effort by all."

The council is now revisiting a reported 10 locations, where properties were affected by flooding problems. …
