Torrid Day for Tykes' Bowlers; COUNTY CRICKET

Article excerpt

YORKSHIRE'S bowling was ripped apart by Australian David Hussey and New Zealander Andre Adams on day two of their LV County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Scarborough.

Hussey, in his last appearance for Notts as their short-term replacement for fellow Australian Adam Voges, thrashed 189 with 26 fours and seven sixes off the 205 balls he received. Adams, coming in at No 10, caused further mayhem by blasting 84 from just 53 balls with five fours and eight sixes.

The pair were largely responsible for Nottinghamshire recovering from the depths of 125 for six to 395, so missing out by just five runs on a fifth batting bonus point.

Yorkshire were in a positive mood when Nottinghamshire began the day on 101 for five and their spirits rose still further with the early departure of Chris Read.

But that was as good as it got for Yorkshire, whose bowlers struggled to find length and line in the windy conditions. Hussey wasted little time in sprinting on from his overnight 59 and he moved into the 90s with three boundaries in an over off Tim Bresnan.

Leg spinner Adil Rashid, watched by England selector James Whitaker, was also given the treatment by Hussey who struck him for fours on either side of the wicket to reach his century.

The nightmare continued as winless Yorkshire lost opener Jacques Rudolph to the second ball of the innings from Ryan Sidebottom and then Anthony McGrath late in the day to Adams to close on 25 for two.
