Article excerpt

MARTIN Fearon returns to the Marsden side after a successful cricketing trip with King's School, Tynemouth, to Barbados, where he starred in a number of his team's performances.

And his return could not be more timely with Marsden locking horns today with Seaham Harbour in a clash of the bottom two in the Warmseal Durham Senior League.

Last weekend's washout took a little of the momentum out of Harbour after their thrilling league cup success, so they are itching to get back into action. With Adam Young available again Seaham are at full strength for a match that provides one of the contestants with the opportunity of breaking their league duck.

Whitburn, currently just 22 points adrift of leaders Boldon, travel to play Felling with a couple of changes expected in their line-up.

Jake Fowler is representing England at football at under-17 level, and this allows 15-year-old all-rounder Harry Thursby into the side for his first-team debut. Also playing will be Chris Henderson, who replaces namesake Lee.

The home side have a couple of holiday absentees, with Phil Taylor and Dominic Wales away and replaced by Mark Douglas and Steve McTaggart.

Michael Bittlestone is set to miss Boldon's home league game against Horden, the youngster having been selected for the North of England Under-15 team, and his place will be taken by Andy McCord. The visitors, as well as parading their new overseas man, Sri Lankan Romesh Eranga, who has 61 first-class wickets to his credit, also welcome back Tom Riches and Andrew Peace.

Burnmoor will give a late fitness test to Martin Thursfield before their home match with Eppleton, but apart from that expect to be unchanged, as are their visitors. And it's the same story for the Hetton derby where the Lyons entertain South with both teams at optimum level.

Willington have possibly their last chance to get back into the Readers Durham County League title race today when they travel to Kimblesworth to take on the unbeaten leaders. …
