A HAPPY and healthy parenting expo is coming to Gympie on Friday, September 11 and planning is currently underway to make it a fun and informative day.

The aim is to draw together a broad cross-section of the community in a forum that includes all families no matter what their situation.

It's about recognising the joys and challenges of parenting, says Valerie Suckling, a member of the steering committee.

The philosophy behind the expo is reflected in the African proverb "it takes a village to raise a child".

The expo will be held at the Gympie Civic Centre from 10am to 6pm and will highlight the importance of child safety and the wellbeing of children, primarily through emphasising the value and importance of positive and effective parenting.

To this end, the steering committee is inviting all service providers in the Gympie community who provide help, support or organise activities for children and parents to be involved.

The aim is to give equal focus to the value and importance of the roles of both mothers and fathers. …
